Project Bags

Project Bags from my Garden Collection for part of my Whispers of Spring Gift Guide.

These fun accessories are inspired by my childhood teachers. The nuns who taught us were a whizz at handcraft and they nurtured a love of nature and beautiful thoughtful treasures that I carry with me to this day.

These particular project bags in my collection are highly embellished, lined draw string bags with a pocket inside and a broad base. They are lined drawstring appliqué bags in floral fleece to be precise and for the most part had sewn except for the zigzag edging inside. The designs are inspired by my newsletter subscribers and customers and their passion for the garden, flowers and the beauty of nature in general.

I was gifted a beautiful satin and velvet stationery pouch once when I was leaving the school in Marino in Dublin. It was always one of my special luxury possessions.

In the Girls National School in Marino we learned how to knit socks, heel turning and all, from big charts high up on the wall. We knit wooly hats, mine was a chunky rusty brown rib and we also knit a scarf featuring the loopy stiches I use in my berets.

Before we advanced to this point we were first shown how to make chord using pencils between two points as a handle for our new knitting project bags. They were simple single layer polyester creations with a drawstring top which pulled to one side. Mine was gorgeous purple with a green chord. I'll never forget it or the nuns who taught us.
