There’s something very special about small handmade pieces.
Not in a grand, over-the-top way - but in that quieter sense of detail, care, and the feeling that someone has really taken their time making something just right.
That’s very much the case with the newest additions from Ditsy Designs - the velvet keepsake mushrooms - along with one last remaining felt cottage that’s just waiting for its new home.
A Small Whimsical Keepsake
The velvet mushrooms are soft, light, and full of character - the kind of piece that doesn’t demand attention but brings a gentle charm to whatever space you place it in. They're just lovely to look at, if you know what I mean but they're practical too. Read on..
Each one is carefully hand stitched using velvet and cotton, then finished with delicate beadwork across the mushroom head. It’s those little details that really make them - subtle, but full of personality when you see them up close.
They’re available in a small selection of colourways:
- Blue with red or blue bead detail
- Black with silver bead detail
- Red with beaded details
And because each one is made by hand, no two are ever exactly the same - which is very much part of their appeal.
Handmade, Thoughtful, and Surprisingly Versatile
One of the nicest things about these mushrooms is how easy they are to live with.
They come with a simple thread loop, so you can hang them on a hook or door handle, but they’re just as lovely:
- resting on a shelf or windowsill
- tucked into a dry vase or pen jar
- displayed as part of a small wall arrangement
They also double up as a pincushion, which adds a practical element without taking away from their decorative feel.
Each one measures approximately 7 inches long and 2.5 inches wide, and they’re lightweight enough to post easily - whether you’re sending a gift or treating yourself.
A Thoughtful Little Gift
These make a slightly unexpected gift in the best way.
They’re a lovely choice for:
- gardeners and nature lovers
- anyone drawn to cottagecore style
- collectors of miniature or whimsical pieces
- creative souls (even chefs!) who appreciate something a bit different
They have that gentle, nostalgic quality - something small that quietly reminds you of home, craft, and creativity.
One Last Felt Cottage (And It’s a Special One)
Alongside the mushrooms, there’s now just one felt cottage remaining - a soft pastel blue piece that feels like a tiny world all on its own.
This little house has been carefully cut, sewn, and stuffed by hand, then set on a needle felted garden base complete with a path and scattered flowers - daffodils, roses, and blossoms across the front, back, and sides.
It’s full of thoughtful details:
- a grey roof
- little windows
- a front door and chimney with a puff of “smoke”
- blossom trees hand embroidered around the sides
- and it sits on a hand felted garden with needle felted flowers and a tiny little path
Measuring approximately 4.5 inches by 4.5 inches, it’s light as a feather but full of presence - ideal for a windowsill, shelf, desk, or mantelpiece.
It would make a particularly meaningful housewarming gift, or a sentimental keepsake for someone far from home.
And as it’s the last one available, it’s very much a one-off piece now.
Made Slowly, in Small Numbers
Both the mushrooms and the cottage are handmade in Ireland by Ditsy Designs in small batches for Parade Handmade.
They’re not mass produced, and that shows - in the stitching, the small variations, and the sense that each piece has been made with real care and attention.
