As the evenings grow just that bit cooler and that golden autumn light starts to peek through the curtains, I’m so delighted to share something special that’s been quietly knitting away in the background: the latest additions to the *Shoreline Knits* collection.
Each piece in this cosy collection is a one-off, delicately hand-knit by a local maker with an eye for texture and tone and a passion for adventures in textile. Yes, some of you know of her well. Lily Ryder of Shoreline.
There are no repeats here – every hat and scarf is designed and made as a standalone gem, ready to find its person. Think natural fibres, gently muted colours, and little unexpected details that bring comfort and joy. Her work is inspired by the colours and tones inspired by her countryside background in farming and living in a place where her back garden touches the Atlantic Ocean.
Among the new arrivals are horizontal garter-stitch beanies in warm, earthy palettes, decorative buttoned styles in bold jewel tones, and clever shaped scarves that practically style themselves. You’ll spot salmon pink Aran cables, neat turn-ups, vibrant teal ribbing, and cosy cream concertina styles. And if you’re a lover of versatility, some of the scarves can be worn as chic headbands too - ideal for wild hair days or crisp seaside strolls, both of which we enjoy so much here on the west coast of Ireland.
These are pieces that sit lightly on your head or wrap softly around your neck, but they hold a sense of care and craft that’s weighty in all the right ways. Many use 100% wool or wool-rich blends, so they’re warm but breathable, soft but long-lasting. They make beautiful gifts, but it’s perfectly reasonable to treat yourself as well (especially if the wind’s howling and the kettle’s on). You'll know you are wrapped in quality.
