A Little Burst of Colour (and a Cosy Layer Too)
It’s that time of year again where you’re not quite sure what you need - a coat? a jumper? a blanket?… or all three at once.
I always find myself reaching for something easy. Something I can throw on without thinking too much about it. Something warm, but not fussy. And if it happens to bring a little bit of colour into the day as well, all the better.
That’s more or less where this little Funky Fleece poncho collection came from.
Handmade, Colourful and Made Slowly
I’ve recently added a small batch of handmade fleece ponchos to my Funky Fleece collection - and when I say small, I really do mean small.
There are just three minimalist ponchos in:
- Lime Green
- Royal Blue
- Citrus Orange
And one slightly more dramatic piece - a rich red floral poncho that has a bit of a personality of its own.
Each one has been made completely by hand from start to finish. No rushing, no mass production - just me, working away steadily and seeing what emerges.
The Easy Throw-On Layer We All Need
These ponchos are designed to be worn without overthinking.
They’re:
- soft
- cosy
- lightweight
- and very easy to throw on and take off
You don’t have to “style” them. You don’t have to commit to them for the day. You just pop one on when you feel like it - and off again when you don’t.
They’re also surprisingly versatile. You can wear them with the point facing down for that classic poncho feel, or turn them slightly so they sit more straight across. It changes the look completely with very little effort.
And on those days where you’re not overly concerned with waistlines, waistbands or anything fitted… they’re very forgiving altogether. (We all have those days.)
A Bit of Fun Along the Way
I had great fun photographing these, I have to say. (When I finally accepted that hanging them on a hanger and working from there was not working at all!!)
They’ve a slightly dramatic, tongue-in-cheek feel - a bit of “arriving somewhere fabulous” energy about them. Think airport entrances, hotel foyers, or stepping out as if someone might be about to take your photograph.
In reality, of course, they’re just wonderfully practical.
Perfect for:
- travel
- evenings outdoors
- boat trips
- barbecues
- or simply keeping warm at home
But there’s no harm in a little imagination along the way.
The Red One (A Bit of a Show-Off)
Alongside the three colourful minimalist pieces, there’s also a one-off red floral fleece poncho.
This one is slightly different:
- a little longer
- a little more dramatic
- with a soft, slightly taller polar-style neck
It’s still just as easy to wear, but it has a bit more presence. A bit more “I’ve arrived” about it, if you like.
And as it’s a one-off piece, once it’s gone, that’s the end of that particular creation.
Slow Pieces, Made to Be Enjoyed
This collection is very much in keeping with how I like to work - small batches, handmade pieces, created slowly and thoughtfully.
There’s no rush to produce dozens of the same thing. In fact, I’d much rather each piece find its own home and then move on to the next idea.
So if you do find yourself drawn to one of these, it’s likely because it suits you - not because it’s everywhere.
A Little Colour Goes a Long Way
At the end of the day, these ponchos are about:
- comfort
- colour
- ease
- and a small bit of fun
Nothing too complicated. Just something warm to throw on that lifts the mood a little.
And at this time of year, that’s no harm at all.
